The APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will secure over 70% of northern votes in the 2027 election. Read More:…
The North has long been the decisive voting bloc in Nigerian presidential elections, with its population size and spread across 19 states making it central to any candidate's path to victory. President Tinubu's 2023 win relied heavily on a fractured opposition vote in the region, and with the North producing strong showings for other candidates in that contest, securing its loyalty ahead of 2027 has become a key talking point for the ruling All Progressives Congress as it positions the president for re-election.
The claims from APC chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Vice-President Kashim Shettima form part of the party's early messaging on Tinubu's prospects in the region, with Yilwatda tying the projected support to ongoing government projects such as railway expansion and healthcare interventions, including services for pregnant women. The predictions have not gone unchallenged, however, with reports also citing an opposition campaign council figure claiming a rival candidate would defeat Tinubu across several northern and other battleground states, underscoring that the contest for the North's votes remains unsettled and contested nearly two years before the next election.
