The Zamfara State government approved a massive 95 percent pay hike for health workers across the state, backdating the start date to September 7, 2026. The announcement came through an official circular signed by the Head of Civil Service, Shehu Baraya, and sent out to commissioners, permanent secretaries, and agency heads. The updated pay scale aligns with the federal government's Consolidated Health Salary Structure, known as CONHESS, and officials hope the bump helps keep talent around while lifting morale in local hospitals and clinics.
Alongside the base pay jump, the government revised its hazard allowances for both clinical and non-clinical staff based on their civil service grades. Workers on grades one to five will get between 14,250 and 15,200 naira, depending on whether they work in clinical roles. Those on mid-tier grades six to 12 will take home between 28,500 and 30,400 naira, while senior staff on grades 13 to 15 will see their hazard pay rise up to 32,300 naira.
State leadership made it clear that higher compensation comes with higher expectations. The government urged healthcare personnel to match the pay raise with stricter dedication, telling staff to show up on time, stick to professional ethics, and deliver better overall care to patients across Zamfara. Department heads were instructed to roll out the adjustments right away so workers see the changes reflected promptly.
