Dangote to support 2m women with refinery shares

Aliko Dangote announced that the Aliko Dangote Foundation is teaming up with state governments to help roughly two million vulnerable women buy shares in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals. He shared the plan in New York during the 81st United Nations General Assembly while answering a question from Dr. Goje Mohammed, Secretary to the Yobe State Government, about how public-private partnerships can help conflict-affected communities build financial stability.

The initiative focuses heavily on widows, households hit hard by economic hardship, and women living in conflict zones. Beyond simply helping eligible women participate in the refinery's initial public offering, the foundation plans to donate extra shares directly to them, creating a pool of equity they can hold onto as long-term savings.

This effort ties into the refinery's broader "People's IPO," which aims to give everyday Nigerians an ownership stake in the 700,000-barrel-per-day facility. By combining state support with donated shares, the programme is designed to turn the public offering into an accessible pathway to lasting wealth for people who might otherwise get left out.
