Dickson urges INEC to publish names of omitted NDC candidates

INEC is mandated under the Electoral Act to publish a final list of candidates ahead of general elections, a document that confers legal recognition on contestants and determines who appears on the ballot. Omissions or errors in such lists have historically triggered disputes, court cases and allegations of bias against smaller or newer parties, which often lack the political muscle to compel swift corrections from the commission.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is one of several smaller parties positioning itself ahead of the 2027 general election. According to the reports, the party's national leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has raised concerns that NDC governorship candidates in Kano, Kaduna and Cross River states were left out of INEC's recently published final list, and has called on the commission to publish their names and correct the list. The coverage does not yet detail INEC's response, the reason for the alleged omission, or whether the party intends to pursue legal action if the correction is not made.
