Fasoranti: Family Fixes December 17 For Burial
The family of the late Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, former leader of Afenifere and foremost nationalist, has fixed December 17, 2026, for his burial. Fasoranti, who died at the age of 100, will be laid to rest…
Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti was one of Nigeria's most prominent elder statesmen and a long-serving leader of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and political organisation founded on the ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Over decades, he was a vocal advocate for restructuring, federalism and Yoruba interests in national politics, making him a respected voice across Nigeria's South-West and beyond.
His death at the age of 100 marks the passing of one of the last surviving links to an earlier generation of Nigerian nationalist politics. Coverage across outlets is consistent on the key facts: the family has fixed December 17, 2026, for his burial in Akure, Ondo State, with activities to precede the interment. Details such as the full programme of events, attendance by political and traditional leaders, and tributes are expected to emerge as the burial date approaches.
