Flydubai Co-Pilot Was Planning ‘Terrorist Act’, Say Investigators
One of the pilots of the Israel-bound flydubai flight diverted on Wednesday attacked his co-pilot and tried to crash the plane to kill everyone, a passenger said. The post Flydubai Co-Pilot Was Planning ‘Terrorist Act’,…
The incident took place aboard a flydubai flight bound for Israel, which was diverted this week after an in-flight confrontation in the cockpit. Accounts differ on the sequence of events: a passenger described the co-pilot attacking the captain and attempting to crash the aircraft, while UAE's attorney general, citing the official WAM news agency, says the co-pilot used the cockpit's emergency axe to attack the captain as part of a planned "terrorist act."
The flight's destination and the attacker's role as a co-pilot rather than a passenger make this distinct from typical aviation security incidents, and UAE authorities' characterization of the act as terrorism signals a formal investigation into motive, though full details of that probe have not yet been disclosed in available reporting.
