NDC National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson has cautioned support groups backing the party and its candidates against operating as if they were competing political structures. He said support organisations have an important role to play, but their activities should complement rather than undermine the authority and structure of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The warning comes as the NDC prepares for the 2027 general elections, following recent legal developments confirming the party’s registration and its participation in the elections. The party has also said its presidential campaign council is being finalised in consultation with presidential candidate Peter Obi, vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the party leadership.
Dickson’s comments reflect an effort to establish clearer boundaries between independent support groups and the formal party organisation. The NDC has previously said that support groups are welcome to collaborate with the party, but should not create parallel structures or make announcements on behalf of the party without approval from its leadership.
