The Delta State Government and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intensified efforts to discourage drug abuse among students as part of the second phase of the Drug-Free Delta Campaign. The campaign is targeting secondary and tertiary institutions across Delta State, with officials visiting schools in Ogwashi-Uku and Asaba to educate students about substance abuse, peer pressure and responsible decision-making.
NDLEA officials warned students about the health and social consequences of using illicit substances and advised them to resist peer pressure and avoid situations that could expose them to drugs. Students were also cautioned about accepting food, drinks or other substances from unknown people at social gatherings, as these could potentially contain harmful substances.
The initiative combines drug prevention, public education and early intervention with enforcement efforts. It also uses interactive activities, including student performances and discussions, to encourage young people to make choices that protect their health, education and future. The campaign began its second phase on September 21 and is being extended across Delta State's three senatorial districts.
