The Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) became a subject of public controversy after questions arose over its legitimacy and the authenticity of its claimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi. Nigeria has in recent years seen a recurring pattern of unauthorised or questionable agencies and officials purporting to speak or act on behalf of government, prompting law enforcement to pursue criminal charges in such cases to protect the integrity of official institutions and public trust.
In this instance, the Federal Government had filed an eight-count criminal charge against Adeyemi over the alleged impersonation and operation of a fake agency. A Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Mohammed Garba Umar, has now struck out those charges, with Channels TV reporting that the move followed a review of the case file by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, and that the FG intends to file fresh charges. The other outlets largely align on the core facts — the eight counts, the court, and the judge — though details on the specific grounds for striking out the charges and the timeline for any refiled case remain unclear.
