Armed robbery and cult-related violence remain persistent security concerns in Ibadan and other parts of Oyo State, with residents frequently reporting the snatching of phones and other valuables, sometimes linked to organised gangs operating from hideouts within the metropolis. State police commands periodically announce the outcomes of intelligence-led operations targeting such groups, often showcasing recovered weapons and suspects as evidence of progress against violent crime.
The two reports agree on the core details: six suspects were arrested and five firearms recovered following a weeks-long operation in Ibadan. Punch emphasises the length and intelligence-driven nature of the operation and lists additional items recovered, including ammunition and cutlasses, while Tribune Online highlights that one suspect is alleged to be a cult leader and details the gang's pattern of targeting residents for their mobile phones. Neither report yet indicates whether the suspects have been formally charged or what specific locations in Ibadan were affected.
