Trump slams LeBron James for national anthem actions
US President Donald Trump lashed out at NBA superstar LeBron James on Thursday for what he called disrespectful behaviour during the playing of the national anthem. The post Trump slams LeBron James for national anthem…
The national anthem has been a recurring flashpoint in American sports and politics since 2016, when NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick began kneeling during its playing to protest racial injustice and police brutality. The gesture drew sharp backlash from conservatives, including Trump, who has repeatedly argued that athletes who decline to stand at attention for the anthem are disrespecting the United States, the flag and the military. LeBron James, one of basketball's most prominent and outspoken stars, has long been a target of Trump's criticism, having clashed with him in the past over social and political issues, including comments on race, policing and athlete activism.
The outlets agree that Trump made the remarks in a post on his Truth Social platform, zeroing in on James' conduct during pre-game warm-ups rather than the anthem performance itself. None of the reports detail exactly what James did, how he has responded, or whether the NBA or James' team has commented on Trump's remarks, leaving key aspects of the dispute still unclear.
