Trump to give Elon Musk top US science medal
President Donald Trump will present close ally Elon Musk and other tech bosses with the top US scientific award at a ceremony on Thursday, the White House said. The post Trump to give Elon Musk top US science medal…
The National Medal of Science is the United States' highest honour for achievement in science and engineering, established by Congress in 1959 and traditionally awarded by the sitting president to researchers, inventors and industry figures deemed to have made lasting contributions to their fields. Past recipients have included physicists, biologists and technologists whose work shaped American scientific leadership, and the award is usually seen as a largely apolitical, prestige honour distinct from policy or business recognitions.
This latest announcement draws attention chiefly because of the relationship between Trump and Musk, who has been one of the president's most prominent business allies and a controversial figure in US politics given his roles at Tesla, SpaceX and other ventures, as well as his brief, high-profile involvement in Trump's government efficiency efforts. Both Vanguard and Punch report the ceremony is to take place this week and that Musk will be honoured alongside other technology executives, though neither outlet details the specific achievements cited for the award or names the other recipients.
