Tinubu Heads to Makkah for Umrah

President Bola Tinubu departs Abuja on Thursday for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah, with the Presidency framing the trip as a spiritual mission on behalf of the nation. Channels TV notes that before leaving, the President "is expected to inaugurate some equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force for its operations," while Premium Times reports he "is expected back in the country next week, after completing the spiritual exercise." Leadership adds that the President will pray for "Nigeria's peace, unity and stability" during his time in the holy city.

Court Upends Imo West Senate Race

In a dramatic political twist, a Federal High Court in Abuja has sacked Governor Hope Uzodinma as the APC's Imo West senatorial candidate, ruling in favour of former governor Rochas Okorocha. Vanguard reports that according to the court, "it was a former governor of the state, Senator Rochas Okorocha, who garnered the highest number of votes cast at the primary election and therefore ought to have been nominated by the party." Channels TV adds that Justice Egwuatu issued the order after holding that "Uzodinma did not win the May 18 primary election conducted by the APC and monitored by INEC," with Legit.ng confirming the court has ordered INEC to publish Okorocha as the party's candidate.

2027 Politics Heats Up

The countdown to 2027 is dominating political discourse on multiple fronts. Minister of State for Budget Doris Uzoka-Anite has disclosed that Tinubu will present the 2027 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly before year-end, with Premium Times noting the move is "expected to enable the National Assembly to begin considering the budget ahead of the 2027 fiscal year." Meanwhile, NDC presidential hopeful Peter Obi issued a stern warning to would-be election riggers, with Daily Trust quoting him as vowing that his camp will "rig those who rig" the 2027 polls, and in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke moved to quash speculation of a seat-sharing pact with the APC, telling Channels TV such reports were "mere fabrication and fake news." Separately, the ADC has pushed back its presidential campaign flag-off in Sokoto, with Punch reporting the event has shifted "to November 4, citing planning and coordination needs."
