The reconciliation matters because it brings together Musiliu “MC Oluomo” Akinsanya and Mustapha “Tafa Sego” Adekunle, two prominent figures in Lagos’ transport-union structure whose relationship has been strained for years. Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, reportedly facilitated the meeting in Ijebu, Ogun State, after holding separate discussions with both men. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed their grievances, shook hands and embraced, with KWAM 1 saying his intervention was motivated by his relationship with both men and his role within what he described as “Team Lagos”, later broadened to “Team Nigeria.”
The background is tied to a much longer struggle over leadership, influence and factional loyalties within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). MC Oluomo and Tafa Sego had previously worked together in Lagos, with Sego serving as treasurer during Oluomo’s tenure as Lagos chairman. Their relationship later deteriorated amid wider disputes within the union. The NURTW's national leadership crisis has also involved a separate and continuing dispute between MC Oluomo and Tajudeen Baruwa, with court rulings and competing claims to leadership. What remains to be seen is whether the personal reconciliation between Oluomo and Sego will translate into a lasting resolution of their differences and whether it will have any wider effect on the union's broader factional disputes. The reported meeting demonstrates a willingness to reconcile, but it doesn't by itself settle the separate legal and organisational questions surrounding NURTW leadership.
